I’ve recently been persuaded that signing online petitions means signing on to a LOT MORE e-mails from people wanting contributions for This, That and THE Other.
I get too many e-mails already from Here, There and damn near Everywhere asking to add my name to some “petition” for This, That or some Other cause, and Oh by the way, WE NEED YOU to pledge money to make “IT” (whatever IT is) happen.
#1 — To the good folks who wanted me to sign some online petition calling for the dosing of Elphaba Wasserman-Schultz in a good old fashioned Kansas hail storm, I say: Add my name. BUT DO NOT ask for money and do not direct me to Net Blue. Nope. NOT going there.
#2 — To the good folks who want me to sign online to save American aboriginal sacred lands from… I confess I’ve clicked on the DELETE key before I got any farther. Not going there. Some of my Politically Progressive acquaintance are convinced that all of us whose ancestors immigrated from the Old World following Leif Erikson’s less than successful attempt to come A Viking owe an apology to all those whose ancestors immigrated from Asia during the ice ages. NO! We do not. As “Progressives” we owe everyone who immigrated to our sector of North America a fair and just legal system (economic system/social system/political system) that applies one set of laws fairly to ALL citizens of the United States of America. We have a long way to go to fulfill this obligation. We will not get there any sooner by clinging to regressive notions of certain portions of the planet as being any more sacred than any other portion of the planet. (There are the UN-Holy Lands in what is commonly called the Middle East, but that’s another matter for another diary.)
#3 — To Colorado’s closet Grizzly Old Patriarchal Senator Mike Bennet, I’ve already affirmed my commitment to the eradication of the idea that corporations are people and therefore the people hiding behind the corporate veil are entitled to defile our elections with “dark” money. Or, if you prefer, ending Citizens United. So NO! I’m not going to sign some online petition endorsed by you in order to put my name and e-mail address in a data base that you will exploit for the purpose of campaign fundraising. I want you, Elphaba Wasserman-Schultz, and Sen. Chuck The Wall Street Toadie Schummer exposed as Closet members of the Grizzly Old Patriarchal party and the Disciples of Wall Street Mammonism that you all are, dipped in hot tar, rolled in broken feathers, tied on a splintery pole and run out of the District of Columbia.
