Checking off two books for 2016

The first — The Cold Dish by Craig Johnson.

The second — David and the Phoenix by Edward Ormondroyd

The Cold Dish is likely to be the first in a long list of Longmire novels by Craig Johnson that I shall be reading.  Walt Longmire is to Absaroka County, Wyoming, what Harry Bosch is to Los Angeles.

I was introduced to Sheriff Walt Longmire while visiting friends in Buffalo, Wyo.  A friend of a friend introduced me to the televised sheriff.  After bingeing (SP???) on all 43 episodes, it was time to go to the source and discover the literary  Walt Longmire.

Waiting for the next season of the televised sheriff will certainly pass swiftly as I get to know the literary Walt better.

If you’re a detective fan, you owe yourself an introduction to Craig Johnson’s Walt Longmire and the challenges of law enforcement in the contemporary west.

David and the Phoenix was every bit as enjoyable the second time around.  If you enjoy a fun dose of magical realism, then Ed Ormondroyd’s Phoenix is just the ornis for you to spend a brief time with.  As part of my 2016 Reading Challenge, David and the Phoenix is one of two I have chosen from the category of books I’ve already read once.  The other will be Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

I’m no longer certain how to classify Alice In Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass.   I don’t remember reading them as a child.  I’m certain I never read them in any lit class if took during my days in academia.  I may well have started them and never finished.  As may happen in 2016.  They’re for me difficult to “get into.”

Here’s my current status:

A book: published this year:  Waiting to decide I can read in a day:  Waiting to decide I’ve been meaning to read:  Ahab’s Wife  recommended by local librarian or book seller:  Waiting for recommendation should have read in school:  The Great Gatsby chosen by my partner:  We’re negotiating — it’s a LOOOONNNNGGG list published before I was born:  DONE — Treasure Island that was banned:  Either Tropic of Cancer or The Satanic Verses previously abandoned:  Tropic of Cancer fits here as does Ahab’s Wife I own but have not yet read:  One from the large pile of good intentions. that intimidates me:  Don Quixote — unabridged;-)
